Past. Rudi Coertzen
General Treasurer
Rudi was born in Vereeniging on 22 September 1960. He is the oldest of four children born to Dolf and Elsje Coertzen. Rudi attended primary- and highschool at Drie Riviere. He started his studies at the University of Johannesburg (RAU) and ministered amongst the students, organising prayer meetings and first year student camps.
While at university he met his wife Ammarentia whom he married on 2 March 1985. He finished his B.A. (Admission) degree and then his B.A. (Hons) before enrolling at the AFM Theological College in 1984. During this time, he worked at Libanon Mine and Roodepoort Durban Deep on a part-time basis to support himself while studying.
His first congregation was Oshakati while he did his conscription where he served two years and ministered to the young men. He was called to Hoedpsruit Assembly and serve them from 1989 to 1990. He was called to Ladysmith (Natal) in 1991. In 1995 he was called to Richardsbay Assembly until he accepted a call to Brakpan-West Assembly in 1999.
During his years of ministry, he was part of the AFM Natal Youth structures as Secretary and later as Chairperson. Many youth conferences were held at Illovo and young people’s lives changed. He was also elected as Vice-Chairperson of the Natal Region in 1994. In 1996 he was elected as Vice- Chairperson of the newly established Zululand Region after unification. In 2008 he was elected as Chairperson of the East Rand Region. Rudi was elected as General Treasurer of the AFM of SA on 16 November 2021.
Rudi and Ammarentia has two children and four grandchildren. He is a keen collector of old Volkswagen Beetles and is a very proud owner of some very rare cars. He also likes taking landscape photos. He likes camping and have traveled to a few very special spots that this country and the world.
Rudi and Ammarentia lives in Brakpan on the East Rand.
