KINDNESS IN THE COLD: FAITH THAT ACTS
When the weather gets cold, those without warm clothes, a safe place to sleep, or enough food become more noticeable. We see people on the streets seeking the sun to stay warm. We hear of families with little or no food, or neighbours who cannot afford to heat their homes. As believers, it is not enough to just pray and ask God to “think” of them.
Prayer is powerful, but God also calls us to act. We should be saying, “God, show me how I can help.” Maybe that means giving someone warm clothes or a blanket, buying a meal for someone who is hungry, or even just stopping to talk to someone who feels invisible. It could also mean donating to the welfare ministry in our local assemblies or to a shelter and volunteering our time.
God wants us to be His hands and feet, especially in times when people are hurting the most. When we open our hearts and eyes to the needs around us and inspire and encourage those we lead to do the same, God will show us where we can make a difference. It might be something small, but small things done with love can bring hope. Winter reminds us that people are in real need, and that we have a chance to step up, show kindness, and meet those needs in practical ways. That is how we live out our faith - not just by praying, but by loving through action.
UZWELO EMAKHAZENI: UKUKHOLWA OKUNEZENZO
Lapho isimo sezulu sibanda, labo abangenazo izingubo ezifudumele, indawo ephephile yokulala, noma ukudla okwanele, babonakala kakhulu. Sibona abantu emigwaqweni befuna ilanga ukuze bafudumale. Sizwa ngemindeni enokudla okuncane noma engenakho, noma omakhelwane abangakwazi ukufudumaza imizi yabo. Njengamakholwa, akwanele ukuthandaza kuphela lapho sicela khona uNkulunkulu ukuba “acabange” ngabo.
Umkhuleko unamandla, kodwa uNkulunkulu ufuna ukuba uhambisane nezenzo. Kufanele sithi, “Nkulunkulu, ngibonise ukuthi ngingasiza kanjani.” Mhlawumbe lokho kusho ukunikeza othile izingubo ezifudumele noma ingubo yokulala, ukuthengela olambile ukudla, noma ukuma ukuze ukhulume nomuntu ozizwa engabonakali. Kungase futhi kusho ukunikela emnyangweni wezenhlalakahle emabandleni ethu noma endaweni yokukhosela futhi sinikele ngesikhathi sethu ukusiza ngokuzithandela.
UNkulunkulu ufuna sibe yizandla nezinyawo Zakhe, ikakhulukazi ezikhathini lapho abantu bezwa ubuhlungu kakhulu. Uma sivula izinhliziyo namehlo ethu ezidingweni ezisizungezile futhi sikhuthaze sibuye sifake umdlandla kulabo esibaholayo ukuba benze okufanayo, uNkulunkulu uzosikhombisa lapho singenza khona umehluko.
Kungase kube yinto encane, kodwa izinto ezincane ezenziwa ngothando zingaletha ithemba. Ubusika busikhumbuza ukuthi abantu banesidingo sangempela, nokuthi sinethuba lokuvela, sibonise umusa, futhi sihlangabezane nalezo zidingo ngezindlela eziphathekayo. Ukholo lwethu siluphila kanjalo-ke, hhayi nje ngokuthandaza kuphela, kodwa nangothando olunezenzo.
