The Apostolic Faith Mission of South Africa had their 2024 General Business Meeting (General Synod) on 10-12 September at the Word and Life Assembly in Boksburg. During this meeting, 1,683 delegates from 1,803 registered assemblies elected National Office Bearers for the 2024-2028 leadership term, Dr Henri Weideman was re-elected as President; Pastor Barend Petersen was re-elected as Deputy President, Pastor Selby Khumalo was re-elected as General Secretary and Pastor Rudi Coertzen was re-elected as General Treasurer. Pastor Frank Chikane was a Chief Electoral Officer.
On Wednesday evening, Pastor George Mahlobo, former President of the AFM and President of AFM International, facilitated the induction and inauguration of the newly re-elected National Office Bearers team. Led by Past George Mahlobo, the church prayed over each Office Bearer, their spouse and their families. Nationwide, AFM members could be part of this significant moment as the event was part of a live stream on AFM social media platforms.
On Wednesday, former long-serving President of the AFM of SA (1988-2016), Dr Isak Burger were briefly present at the General Business Meeting (GBM). He warmly greeted the GBM delegates and the National Office Bearers as he reflected on the most precious moment in his ministry – the day in 1996 when the AFM church became a unified church during a widely broadcasted event hosted at the SuperSport Park Cricket Stadium in Centurion. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fI5ylB5GKw). Strengthening and deepening unity on all levels of the AFM church remains a vital priority for newly re-elected President, Dr Henri Weideman.
During the General Business Meeting, Dr Henri Weideman (President) reminded the church about its most important missional actions, especially in the context of our beloved country South Africa. “Missional” means living and sharing the message of Jesus every day, not just inside the walls of the church, but everywhere. Activated AFM members make a Christ-centred difference in their local communities. These actions include Share what God has done for you; Be equipped for ministry; Live with Godly integrity and character; Take hands with other Christians and Care for your community. For the National Office Bearers practical implementation at assembly- and member level remains an important priority. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZryhoPsyXs)
Further, as part of the General Business Meeting, two dynamic guest speakers were invited to equip Pastors on highly relevant leadership topics. Ed Ramsami (Director and Founder of Cultural Intelligence Africa) spoke on “Cultural Intelligence and Faith” and Dr Etienne van Heerden (Philosophiae Doctor, Theology) shared his knowledge on “Artificial Intelligence and the Church”.
Together with the General Business Meeting, the AFM Ablaze Conference was also taking place from Sunday, 8 September to Wednesday, 11 September with the theme “Revive, Renew and Rejoice”. The evening services started with anointed, powerful worship that included songs from multiple cultures and languages, special greetings and powerful sermons by the re-elected National Office Bearers. All the evening services were also streamed live from Word and Life Boksburg to serve a wider AFM and Christian community (national and international) with the life-changing message of the Gospel.
The AFM is a church that believes that the Spirit of God is given to believers to live dynamic and overcoming lives, a church that believes that believers can demonstrate the character, love and power of their Lord, Jesus Christ in their daily lives. AFM members are the most visible evidence of the AFM’s vision and mission living powerful lives and carrying destiny-changing messages.
