1. ASCENSION DAY, PENTECOSTAL WEEK & PENTECOSTAL SUNDAY

Dear Colleagues,

I trust you are well! I want to remind all that Ascension Day is next Thursday on the 10th of May 2018. The Pentecostal Week starts on 11 May 2018 and conclude on the Pentecostal Sunday which will be on the 20th of May 2018. My appeal is that Baptism in the Holy Spirit, the Gifts of the Spirit and the Fruit of the Spirit should be given priority both during the Pentecostal Week and the Pentecostal Sunday. Let’s believe God for a great outpouring of the Holy Spirit!

2. FEEDBACK – UP4SA

I have asked Past. Robbie Black to give us feedback on the Up4SA united prayer initiative that took place during the month of February this year. This is a growing prayer movement with more and more communities getting involved:

Up4SA is all about standing ‘Up’ to the call for PRAYER and UNITY in South Africa on grassroots level.  There is no better time for ordinary believers (across denomination and race) to grab the opportUNITY to be ambassadors of Unity through Prayer all across South Africa! The body of Christ needs to take the lead in this regard! I’m whole heartily convinced that healing in our Nation will come from grassroots level, it’s time for the Christian community to ACTIVELY PURSUE UNITY!

We honour the Lord for more than 250 towns that joined in united prayer this year. There are so many testimonies of towns where relationships are being restored in communities and between local churches and pastors since the start of Up4SA in 2016. The gates of hell are shaken when believers across race and denominations take hands in United Prayer. Strongholds of hate, anger, racism, self-righteousness etc. are broken when we unite in prayer. We have a responsibility as Christians to reach out to each other, we need to build relationships so that we can be united to take a stand for what is right and pure in our Communities and Country!  We can start by praying together in unity! Let’s not wait for next year’s nationwide Up4SA prayer weekend, start now!

There are some very important aspects on prayer that we need to emphasize! Remember that prayer is about relationship, whether we want to know it or not, our prayer life reflects our relationship with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit!  Secondly we know that prayer is a discipline. We need to discipline ourselves to pray, it doesn’t just happen or comes easily. Thirdly, prayer is also about responsibility. So many times we say that we pray for issues of concern and for each other, but do we really pray?

Lastly, we do realize that prayer is continual, Acts 12:5   (KJV) “Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.”  The Bible also teaches us that the Holy Spirit are constantly interceding for us. Praise the Lord! If we say that we are truly filled with the Holy Spirit and that we are Pentecostal, we should have the nature and fullness of the Holy Spirit in us. This means that we will have a supernatural unction / desire / yearning to be a praying Body!

What a blessing it is to be a Pentecostal Church, the blessing of praying in the Holy Spirit!  When we don’t know what to pray, the Holy Spirit guides us. The wonder of receiving the revelation of the mysteries of God, to experience the heart of God in prayer, to get in sync with God as we pray in tongues.

Let us keep four things in mind: God hears prayer, God heeds prayer, God answers prayer, God delivers by prayer.” EM Bounds

Love and blessings!
Robbie Black

Today I am sharing an extremely important and strategic event with you – and especially with our AFM Pastors, Governing Body Members, Leaders and Members in and around the Gauteng Province.

Empowered21 is an organization that is helping to shape the future of the Spirit-empowered movement throughout the world. It is open to all Spirit-empowered churches, ministries, organisations, networks and fellowships. The Empowered21 African Congress is a strategic empowerment opportunity that speaks directly into the heart of missionality and the AFM’s “One AFM Game Plan”. The vision of EMPOWERED21 is:

“That every person on earth would have an authentic encounter with Jesus Christ through the power and presence of the Holy Spirit…by Pentecost 2033.”

This vision mirrors the Great Commission and connects to the basic vision of every Christian church – and especially every AFM assembly. In attendance will be a wide array of ministry leaders from around the world, including William Wilson (President, Oral Roberts University), George Wood (Chairman, World Assemblies of God Fellowship); Opoku Onyinah (President, Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council), Frank Chikane (President, The Apostolic Faith Mission International); Daniel Kolenda (President, Christ for All Nations); Ron Luce (Global Youth Strategist, Generation Next) and many others.

Ten focus areas have been identified for both the main and individual track sessions (that are aligned with the AFM’s missional church strategy):

Evangelism

Discipleship

Prayer networks

Women’s ministry

Children’s ministry

Next Generation Youth Network (NGN)

Theological scholars

Advocacy & prophetic leadership

Humanitarian aid & disaster relief

Christian Business Network

Through registering for this congress you get the opportunity to be part of network structures (from contintental to national levels) that serve and network with African leaders on each of the focus areas. The idea is to create new connections that will empower the Spirit-filled movement to fulfil the Great Commission.

On Saturday 19 May 2018 the program will focus on inter-generational impartation. 1. HEMELVAARTDAG,  PINKSTERWEEK EN PINKSTER SONDAG

Liewe Kollegas,

“Let us keep four things in mind: God hears prayer, God heeds prayer, God answers prayer, God delivers by prayer.” EM Bounds

Liefde en Seën!
Robbie Black

1. AFM COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT RECEIVES DEPARTMENTAL AWARD

Dear Colleagues,

Today we are celebrating one of our AFM assemblies that received an award from their local government for active involvement in the local community. The AFM Emmanuel Assembly is situated in Potchefstroom (Ikageng) and led by Pastor Palo Motsi and Mrs. Theresa Motsi. The vision of the assembly is to influence and impact the world around them for God’s Glory.

The assembly has various programs and projects to support the local community. It was one specific issue that became evident in the community in 2017 – the below average matric results achieved by the learners. The AFM Emmanuel Assembly got involved and identified the Secondary Schools where matric results were below average. Empowerment sessions were used as tool to motivate scholars, teachers and the management of the school. The assembly invited an international motivational speaker (Dr. John Tibane) and a local motivational speaker (Lesego Tau from Soweto) to encourage and motivate the school.

The AFM Emmanuel Assembly is a great example of actively getting involved with the challenges of the local community and is one of the drivers in the One AFM Game Plan. The empowerment sessions contained valuable information to help matrics to reach higher and delve deeper to accomplish the matric results that are beneficial to their future and the community as a whole.

This Godly caring for and heartfelt involvement in the community was seen and noted by the Education and Sport Department of Northwest.  On 24 March 2018 the AFM Emmanuel Assembly was the blessed recipients of an award from the Department that acknowledged and recognized their service as a stakeholder for the Provincial Quality, Learning and Teaching Campaign in Northwest.

The AFM Emmanuel Assembly is an example of a missional church that is a church beyond the physical “church building”. Actively representing Christ in our communities and getting involved with the issues of the day, is being a missional church. We congratulate them on this exceptional achievement!

Note: Remember that the One AFM Game Plan resources are available from the AFM website in 4 different languages: Afrikaans, English, isiZulu and Sesotho.

1. AGS GEMEENSKAPS BETROKKENHEID ONTVANG DEPARTEMENTELE TOEKENNING

Liewe Kollegas,

Theresa Motsi.

1. SOCIAL MEDIA & MISSIONALITY

Dear Colleagues,

In my Pastoral Letter to you two weeks ago (http://afm-ags.org/category/publications/pastoral-letters/), I mentioned the AFM’s precious calling – to win souls. It is the vision of the church that every member claim their position as missionary, soul winner and “apostolic agent” – making the Great Commission of Jesus Christ their “Personal Commission”. Gone are the days where we have to travel to a foreign and distant country to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the lost. The world is on our doorstep and the “mission field” is closer than we could ever have imagined! This now includes the Internet and social media.

Are you aware of the fact that 21 million South Africans are Internet users? Most of them access the Internet by using their mobile phones and new research indicates that 40% of the South African population were online in 2017 (World Wide Worx, Arthur Goldstuck). These statistics represent a major opportunity for the church, through its members, to interact, connect and build relationships with people who might never have set foot in a church. Imagine 1.4 million AFM members or Kingdom Workers actively spreading and embodying the Gospel online! When we use social media (e.g. Facebook, Instagram or Twitter to name a few) it is important to know and understand that what we “post” and how we “post” it, will have an impact on others. As believers our participation reflects our belief in Christ. It gives every follower an opportunity to extend the Kingdom of God online. What a valuable opportunity it is!

But there are also risks that we need to take note of. Behaviour that we should refrain from when we interact and participate on social media. The National Leadership Forum (NLF) approved a Social Media Policy for the AFM that all pastors, governing body members and leaders should take note of. The Policy can be downloaded from the link below:

http://afm-ags.org/category/media/

I would also like to direct your attention to:

The new AFM website: http://afm-ags.org/

1. SOSIALE MEDIA EN MISSIONALITEIT

Liewe Kollegas,

http://afm-ags.org/category/media/

EDUCATION & TRAINING: KORREKTE AANSOEK PROSESSE

AFM Newsflash: Friday, 9 February 2018

Dear Colleagues,

Greetings! I trust that the new year is treating you well. Please note that due to cable theft the area around and including the AFM Head Office are currently without landline telephone connections.

According to Telkom it will unfortunately take 3-5 weeks to restore. An alternative arrangement was made whereby the normal Telkom numbers for Head Office are diverted to a cellphone. Our receptionist (Letta) will take a message and the relevant staff member will return the call per cellphone. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and trust that this explanation gives some clarity.

I would also like to use this opportunity to direct your attention to two very important issues:

STATEMENT BY SARS

The South African Revenue Service (SARS) recently issued a statement on its plan to investigate possible tax non-compliance in the religious sector. This includes churches. Pastors, Governing Bodies and Regional Committees, should be aware of the tax obligations of churches and their employees.

1. UNITED PRAYER FOR SOUTH AFRICA

It’s not necessary to mention that South Africa is experiencing difficulties on many terrains. The main responsibility of Christians is to pray earnestly and faithfully to God. On the 24th of February a nationwide prayer initiative is taking place. My request is that pastors and community leaders prayerfully consider volunteering and co-ordinating a prayer point in their local community. Every community leader that volunteers receives a resource pack and will be empowered to coordinate the prayer point.

Please read the information and be part of what I believe, is a God-inspired initiative:

The aim of these visits is to bring key issues to the leadership of the AFM and includes training, discussions, reflection and feedback sessions.

The key issues for 2018 include a focus on: ● Succession Planning ● Traditional mission paradigm vs. missionality paradigm ● Leadership Development ● Game Plan feedback ● Coaching relationships in regions, networks & departments ● “Practical” cohesion. Kindly find the dates and venues below:

3. AFM WEBSITE

The National Office is excited to announce that the current website (which served us well for the last 4 years) is in the process of being updated and revamped. Apart from receiving a fresh “look and feel” the website will provide useful and updated information to AFM pastors, leaders, members and the wider Christian community.

The new website will be live by the end of February. We are looking forward to engage with our church through this useful online platform.

Blessings!
